In Card Based Access Control System, a card is issued to an employee which holds a unique alphanumeric code. A unique code is assigned to every card which may match an employee’s company registration code and is strictly different for every card. this card is punched on the biometric machine and due to its unique code, the door gets opened as the code is on the name of that employee and this has been entered into the machine. Without this card, the entry would be restricted. Sometimes companies opt for both finger & card access if in case the employee forgets the card so he/she can enter the floor area with finger punch.
Key features like Wi-Fi connectivity, the external 2MP camera interface, customized voice greetings, and even the battery backup are explicitly labeled as optional. If you need a completely wireless setup or identity verification photos, the actual deployment cost will be significantly higher than the base machine price.
While the hardware supports these standard applications, Star Link sells these as separate enterprise software modules (e.g., Savvy HRMS, Leave Management Software). You will likely face additional software licensing and integration fees to actually utilize the data the machine collects.
The machine can hold 15,000 card users, but it can only store 9,560 fingerprint templates. If your company enforces a mandatory “2 fingerprints registered per employee” rule for backup safety, the actual physical biometric user capacity drops to just 4,780 employees.
The specifications mention standard Optical CMOS technology with standard 1:N / 1:1 verification. It does not explicitly state that it detects fake silicone or gelatin fingers, which leaves the door open to “buddy punching” (employees clocking in for each other using mold duplicates) unless you buy the optional external camera.
The device uses “Data Push Technology” to send logs to a server. While it has a massive internal memory buffer of 500,000 logs, the security level of this local data cache (whether it is fully encrypted on the device’s local memory or easily retrievable via the pen drive slot by an unauthorized user) is not specified.
The technical specifications list an operating humidity of up to 90% non-condensing and zero dustproof/waterproof IP rating (e.g., IP65). If moisture, grease, or heavy dust gets onto the optical sensor or into the 16-key graphic keypad, registration read times will degrade sharply or fail entirely.
Star Link explicitly states that the Software Development Kit (SDK) for third-party system integrators is only available in server mode. If your organization relies on localized, client-side custom integrations or decentralized local API pulls, this machine will not support your network architecture.
